This post is for the attention of those managers who are going to take part in the Head-to-Head League, run via Yahoo, in 2025.
The final few weeks of the season will be given over to playoffs, based on where teams finished in the league standings, which will then decide league champion and final positions.
Last year, the final playoff week coincided with the last week of the MLB regular season, so the fantasy matchups deciding the champion and other finishing positions concluded on the last day of the MLB regular season. A potential issue is that during the final week MLB teams often make last-minute decisions to rest players or move around the schedule of starting pitchers, either because they have no chance of making the MLB postseason or because they are preparing for the playoffs.
This can create a volatile situation for managing a fantasy roster, especially when that week’s matchup will decide the championship and other final placings. For that reason, some head-to-head leagues opt to start their playoffs a week earlier so they conclude before the final week of the MLB regular season.
The alternative view is that it would be odd for the last week of the MLB regular season to not count towards fantasy baseball and that any uncertainty adds to the fun / challenge.
