What is happening here?  No end of season roundup but no one seems to care.  Doesn’t bode well for 2025 😟

        Hi @Jane W , thanks for caring!

Sorry, I’m later than I’d like in publishing the end-of-season round-up but been swamped with work and life stuff since the fantasy season ended. Hoping to get it done this week.

Hi Tim – not a problem and I appreciate all the time and effort you have put in throughout the season.  I just find it strange that no other players have commented on the final league tables or used the forum at all during the season.  I’ve been playing since 2007 and quite miss the interaction of players there used to be in the earlier days of Fantasy Baseball U.K. even if it was often to just have a good moan about how badly we were doing.  Maybe it’s all happening somewhere on social media and I’m just not aware of it 😀

Yep, I miss the interaction of the old BSUK forums, I use enjoy reading all the comments on there. It made these BSUK leagues a little bit more special in terms of participation and felt like a ‘Community’ as opposed to just playing on any old Public FL League hosted on Yahoo or Fantrax.

I use to look forward reading the monthly commentaries (from Geoff & Tim)….i guess it’s harder nowadays when you have 5 different Fantasy League formats….unless there’s a volunteer who is prepared to do those write-ups if Tim doesn’t have the time.

It shouldn’t be down to Tim to create a community – I’m not sure when it all stopped (before Covid??) and why the players suddenly stopped using the forum to talk about the games and others baseball related stuff like travelling to the States to see games.  It would be good if players got more involved next year.  Otherwise, as you said, its like playing in a general anonymous public Yahoo league.

I’m sure we lost a lot of the ‘old face’ regulars once we switched from BSUK website to our current Yahoo/Fantrax Fantasy leagues. There must be a way of contacting them again (email addresses?) to see if some of them would like to re-join.

The Fantrax Leagues are not far off from what we had before.  I know at it’s peak during mid-2000’s there were like 600 or 700 FL teams on BSUK website…which was during the time Johnny Gould hosted the Baseball show on Channel 5. It gradually reduced to around 200-300 teams once Channel 5 ditched airing the Baseball show.

With a bit of promotion on Social media platforms, I think we could get back up to the 200-300 participants level again. (across the 5 FL formats)

Yep, the numbers dropped off a lot after the website with the old version of the game had big technical issues at the end of the 2019 season and couldn’t be repaired. Then the combination of the delayed, shortened MLB season in 2020 and moving to Yahoo that year means I’ve been gradually trying to build the membership back up since then.

I suppose because the leagues are no longer run directly through the FBUK website there’s less incentive for managers to check out the forums.

I have previously emailed the full member list from the old game a few times to publicise the revived version and try to push it on social media before the start of each season.

I have had a Twitter account for donkey’s years…..and I think most people have  a Twitter or Facebook account even if some don’t  use it regularly.

If all us managers help re-tweet your  pre-season enrollment Tweets prior to the beginning of the season…it might help garner a few dozen extra new players.
