Commissioner’s Notes – 2022 Season

Welcome to the 2022 season (let’s hope!). Will post general info and updates about the organisation of the season in this thread.

Registration

Expect you’ve seen it but in case not, registration for the 2022 season is open here until 4 March.

Draft and season start dates

As of 2 March, negotiations between MLB and the MLB Players Association over the new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) are still ongoing and this will now delay the start of the season (MLB confirmed the season will start no earlier than 8 April). The FBUK draft dates were pencilled in for the evenings of 25-26 March but might be pushed back depending on the eventual confirmed date of MLB Opening Day. The draft normally takes place about a week before Opening Day.

More info will be emailed out to registered FBUK managers and put on the website as the situation becomes clearer.

After the latest round of talks on 9 March, MLB confirmed Opening Day will take place no earlier than 14 April. The season was originally scheduled to start on 31 March and had already been put back a week before the latest postponement.

The FBUK draft dates for the Yahoo leagues will now be pushed back in line with the eventual confirmed date of MLB Opening Day. The draft normally takes place the weekend before Opening Day, which at the moment would tentatively put the drafts on the evenings of Friday 8 and Saturday 9 April.

However, we need to wait and see whether there is further postponement before confirming.  😕

In a quick turn of events – after looking like further postponements were due – a new CBA was agreed on 10 March and MLB confirmed Opening Day for 7 April  🙂

Invitation emails have now gone out to managers who registered for the 2022 season, to take up their spots in the three league formats (standard, limited trade and salary cap) and its information about drafts, etc.

The How to Play page has been updated ahead of the new season.

The standings pages have been given several updates:

• Added the FBUK Classic standings (salary cap league) from the Fantrax platform
• Reorganised so that the overall and divisional standings for each league format are grouped together via the dropdown menu on each league page (no separate Divisions page anymore)
• Added an Innings Pitched column in the standings
• Added a Points Back column to the overall standings for each league (previously, this just displayed in the divisional standings)
• The Previous Seasons standings (2020 and 2021) are now accessible in one place via dropdown menu selections
