What do you think a suitable Games Played limit is for position slots (non-pitchers)?

I am never 100% sure on this. It is currently set to the default 162 games, which in one way makes sense and seems to be the default suggested for other fantasy leagues. But this season actually lasts 186 days. One manager has suggested that may cause managers to hit the position limit too early and suggested upping it to around 175. What do you think?

(The limit is per roster position not per specific player.)

It seems logical to me that the limit on games played should be 162, in order to be consistent with the MLB 162 game schedule. Game management is a necessary function, requiring a certain skill in itself.

………………… But this season actually lasts 186 days. ……..

Actually it’s 183 if you subtract the 3 days for the All Star Break……or 182 days if considering only 1 game taking place on July 15th (NYY vs BOS)

It still means that on 20 or 21 days each position must be left blank or filled with a non-participating player for that day. Outside the Catcher position…..it’s a pretty tricky exercise for most Fantasy players.

The pitchers are not any easier to manage…it allows for 7.2 innings per day ….that’s good for one starter  (6 innings average) and 1 closer per day. So if you field 3 starters on a single day, you’re going to have to take the hit somewhere down the line of 2 days without a starter.

September will be fun…..it’s reminds me of this weekend’s Formula-E race in Valencia…..where half the cars on their final 2 laps were running out of available energy and  just stopping on the track (including the race leader for most of that race).

Tomorrow never comes though, make hay while the sun shines, cross that bridge etc.
Then expect apoplectic shrieking from all corners…..”no-one told me!” etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I had a bit through email as well. The majority of responses suggests keeping the GP limit at 162, which was the Yahoo default and seems to be consistent with what other leagues do.

I am going to include a reminder of the IP and GP limits in the FBUK Update being emailed out today.

Davy Dodgers down to double digit innings left to pitch. We may have seen what Usain Bolt trying the 10,000m looks like?

I absolutely support the innings/GP limits.

Good luck in the second half Davy, you may need it?

Yep, showboating tactic….thank god there are not monthly prizes, he would have  won half of them.  😛

He’s not the only one…..you can count the top 6 or 7 teams of the Main Game. Myself included….but not so extreme over the limit and still very manageable to bring back down again.

I actually think it should be reduced, at least for catchers in the Limited Trade leagues where there are no reserves. Anyone who snapped up Salvador Perez this year, for example, gained a huge advantage from the fact that he played at least 30 more games than any other catcher leaving him over 210 points ahead of his nearest rival Will Smith for no other reason than that he benefitted from over 200 more at bats. Apart from Perez, not a single specialist catcher played more than 130 games. If the limit is to remain at 162 games then there is surely a strong argument for at least allowing a reserve catcher in Limited Trade leagues.
