Summer is here and the 2018 Major League Baseball season is getting into the swing of things, so it’s time for the second monthly Fantasy Baseball UK update of the season.
George Anderson‘s fantasy team were better than Average Joes and enough to propel him to the Manager of the Month award for May. Scroll down to find out more.
In a month of strong pitching performances including James Paxton’s no-hitter, Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer secured his second consecutive National League Pitcher of the Month honour and a spot in the FBUK All-Star Team of the Month for the second month in a row. He picked up four wins and 63 strikeouts in six appearances in May, including a 15-strikeout performance on 6 May against the Philadelphia Phillies. Scroll down to see the full All-Star Team of the Month.
Two other players making the All-Star Team for the second consecutive month were the Boston Red Sox pair Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez. Betts recorded his second three-homer game of the season on 2 May versus the Kansas City Royals.
Cincinatti Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett earned the NL Player of the Month title and a place in the All-Star Team after batting close to .400 through May.
The Cleveland Indians were represented by three players in the All-Star Team including third baseman Jose Ramirez, who ran a .336 batting average with 12 doubles and .427 on-base percentage in May, and shortstop Francisco Lindor, who notched 44 hits through the month, the most of any player. Lindor was MLB’s American League Player of the Month.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout posted an All-Star worthy performance during the month (including 30 walks) that has helped set him atop the FBUK stats among all hitters at the time of writing. Trout already has 510 fantasy points up to and including 8 June, almost 50 points ahead of the next hitter in the standings.
FBUK All-Star Team of the Month: May
Based on fantasy points accumulated, here’s the month’s top performers at each position:
Manager of the Month: May
Congratulations to George Anderson, the May Manager of the Month. His team, Average Joes, surpassed any mediocre expectations caused by their name to score the most fantasy points between 1-31 May. Last year, George won the Indians division with Cleveland Chavaliers and is on course to repeat in 2018 as the Joes’ May performance has seen them carve out a commanding lead in the division as well as elevating them to third overall in the Main Game (at the time of writing).
Fantasy League Standings (Top 10): Up to 8 June
The April Manager of the Month, Daniel Perrin, followed up with a solid May (ranked seventh overall during the month), shooting Pain in Yoenis to first place in the Main Game. The back-to-back champion 2015-16, Ludo Basse, leads the chasing pack with Stantonomore. May Manager of the Month, George Anderson, has put himself in the picture with Average Joes. Flux Capacitors and Whowhatwhere continue to be ever-present around the top five.
Last year’s runner-up in the $5m Game, Stuart Burnett, extended his lead in this year’s competition during May with The 5 Million Dollar Men. In the Limited Trade Game, Keith Jeffery has opened up a 200-point lead for his team Atlantic Crossing.
Thanks for playing, and good luck for the rest of the season!
